How to stop the endless search for beautiful home accessories
“What local decor shops are your ‘go-to’ source for great home accessories and small accent pieces?” Not too long ago, this question was posed to us on an on-line designer forum we belong to.
Well…we were stumped.
I mean, we know WE have a great wealth of suppliers for that sort of thing. We’re talking beautiful mirrors and art, quality vases and lamps, stylish occasional tables…great suppliers we’ve found over the years. However, we don’t stock much in our studio. We normally special order in for each project. So, if we had to go outside our suppliers where would we go?
We had to really think hard on this. In fact, we even asked a couple of clients we were working with at the time where they like to shop for these things. And we all felt the same: there is a huge void to fill. Particularly up here in the Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Aurora, Newmarket, and Vaughan areas (our neck of the woods). Aside from a couple of chain stores whose merchandise doesn’t really excite us very much or (whisper) Homesense that’s, at best, described as ‘hit and miss’, well,… there is nothing.
So, go downtown Toronto you say. Yes, true, much better. But, here’s the thing: most stores have their ‘look’ and everything they buy reflects that. So you might have to really move around the city to see different selections and price points.
This simple question really brought home the fact for us that Lumar Interiors is THE best kept secret in York Region. We carry a variety of suppliers/looks and at different price points. We are very selective about what we stock but if you’re willing to wait we can get almost anything….
The chic well-travelled look of suppliers like Global Views and Arteriors for lighting, accessories, and occasional furniture.
Global Views
The classic pieces of Maitland Smith/LaBarge and Chelsea House. They have furniture, lighting, accessories and gorgeous, quality mirrors.
The rustic look from Uttermost and French Heritage – everything from economical, fashion-forward pieces to Made In France heirloom furniture.
Furthermore, we carry different price points: the $200 lamp from Uttermost or the $600 one from Currey and Co.

Typically a home decor shop either caters to the $200 lamp crowd or the $1,600 kind. Not both. Well, not us.

Basically in our on-line shop you can see what we have in stock at any given time. These are pieces we loved and brought in together with customers’ orders. They are specially curated by us: pieces we would love to place in a beautifully styled vignette in a customer’s home. They are only a small, very small representation of product that we have at our disposal. We can special order anything if you are willing to wait anywhere from 4-8 weeks.
